We've enjoyed our stay at Little Creek Casino resort, but 2 nights later, we've decided its time to depart.
It might be caused by the fact that the entire building is smoke friendly, or the fact that every time we walk through the casino we spot about 4 or 5 people wearing oxygen masks while still smoking and betting...or the fact that Merryl is starting to enjoy the slots a little too much.
The state of Lee's achilles has required us to do a lot of soul searching, and we've called our backup (Mike) to come down. We think its safe to say that we will no longer make it to the Mexican border and we are oh so sadly considering options and alternatives at this point.
We'd like to end on an upbeat note, by saying that we were asked by an American what language we spoke.

Hey Lee and Merryl,
ReplyDeleteSad to hear the achilles news. Give Mike some weight (to take home), let him play chase vehicle with you for a few days of easy cycling (maybe Lee ride the car for a day or two and put Mike on the bike), and keep icing the achilles and find a good physio for a couple of treatments. Hope that helps. I don't know if antiflammatories are an option. Depends on the doctor's suggestions.
Safe riding.

I am sure it is hard to figure what to do. But there are many out here who are rooting for you both to somehow find a way to continue if you can. Maybe after a break, as suggested by Ross.
ReplyDeleteWork on a variation of the original plan. You have secured some time away from it all, so enjoy it in a different way. Any ashrams around?
I agree with Wendy, about a variation of the original plan.
ReplyDeleteOk, here's my idea. I think you should get Mike to take as much from the BOB as you can spare. Then, Lee can sit in the BOB... and Merryl can do the biking!!!
Just like that.. wham bam shazam, problem solved, you make it for the rest of your trip... and Bob's your uncle! (Pun fully intended).
GOOD LUCK, but be safe!
Love Cousin Natalie
First off - is the dog alright? I understand dad dog napped her when he took off.
ReplyDeleteSecond - your plants are being watered and tended to so fear not.
Third - i understand that natives of northern california have their own means of dealing with constant, throbbing pain...so perhaps a swim in the ocean...?
Fourth - eric and i rooting for you. take care, much love.
-the boys.
Pain, pain, go away. Don't bother coming back another day...
ReplyDeletebummer! but all part of the experience i guess.
ReplyDeleteno such thing as failure when you've embarked on a journey like this. not about the destination! about the casino addicts and well-educated patriots you meet along the way...
good luck and all the best!
